Artist Gerardo Chávez died on 22 June 2025 at the age of 87 in Trujillo, Peru. He served as chairman of the board for Art and Culture of Trujillo.
His full name was Gerardo Chávez López, and he was born on 16 November 1937 in Trujillo, Peru.
He had his own artistic foundation and helped develop a cultural environment in the city through the Toy Museum. He received the Grand Officer of the Order of the Sun of Peru award in 2006.
His family confirmed that Chávez passed away peacefully at home in Trujillo after battling illness.

They also reaffirmed their mission:
“To preserve, promote, and expand his legacy… convinced that his flame will continue to burn in memory, creativity, and the future.”
The Ministry of Culture of Peru wrote on X:
“With deep regret, we express our condolences for the passing of maestro Gerardo Chávez, an outstanding visual artist and an essential figure in contemporary Peruvian art.”
