Indian film director, Chandra Barot died on 20 July 2025 at the age of 86 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India after complications from pulmonary disease. He worked in the Hindi film industry. He was best known for as director in the film Don, produced by Nariman Irani.
Barot began his career as a banker before moving to Mumbai in 1967 to pursue filmmaking. He worked as an assistant director under Manoj Kumar on several major films before making his directorial debut with Don, a script initially rejected by top actors and studios. The film was created partly to help financially troubled producer Nariman Irani, and although it started as a flop, it later became a blockbuster thanks to its gripping story and hit songs. Despite Don’s massive success, Barot never directed another major Hindi film, though he worked on a few regional projects. He born on 1939 in Tanganyika Territory. His last movie was Purab Aur Pachhim, starring Ashok Kumar, Saira Banu, Manoj Kumar, Pran, Nirupa Roy, Prem Chopra, and Vinod Khanna.
